The Role of Government in Family and Personal Issues

The issue of how much the government is allowed to interfere with family and personal issues is a controversial topic. Two main ideas have been proposed, both of which advocate for some restrictions on the government’s involvement in private matters. It is difficult to establish a definitive criterion, as there is no clear-cut solution. However, the dominant approach is to grant the government an expanded authorization to shape families and individual relationships, with the aim of preserving the interests of society as a whole. While individual aspects are also considered, many scholars believe that the family is the core of each community, and it is vital for the government to observe and ensure the well-being of families.

According to a report by NSW University published in the Law and Society Journal in Sydney in June 2018, this policy is more effective in supporting morality and ethics in communities than other methods. Many researchers believe that this fundamental approach can accelerate sustainable development targets approved and recommended by UNODP-UN, titled “Human Rights and the Future of the World.”

It is important to note that it is not possible to eliminate independence in managing families by parents or individuals. However, guidelines and roadmaps can be prepared to improve families’ welfare, safety, and security without breaching their privacy.

On the other hand, some authors and private sectors, such as green groups and human rights advocates, do not agree with this view. They argue that governments breach their selected targets to justify their hidden policies to support family status. They claim that the states cannot provide acceptable evidence to prove any adverse effect. The final report by ISCS on democracy and rule of law in EU’s organization in 2017 found that fewer achievements were made in arranging social relationships when states applied more interference on families. The report concludes that applying the former notion decreases self-confidence and family integrity. Moreover, this idea stands in front of human rights principles and is likely to create anarchy in individual relationships. It is possible to misuse citizens and dictate incorrect policies.

In conclusion, both mentalities have their justifications and rejections. However, it is essential to consider that both approaches are necessary to apply the rule of law.
